This was new technology once too

Background Information

History

We started in 2000 as a consultancy focussed on the wider implications of the Internet revolution for the way in which people and businesses communicate. As a consultancy we have advised on a wide range of issues and we continue to advise on strategy, technology and their commercial implications as well as providing expert technical consultancy.

In 2001 we began offering services from our Oxford Street data centre, convinced that, burst bubble or not, we were still at the very beginning of what this technology could do. We worked hard on building a business that is both proficient technically and in its ability to communicate with its clients. We found that everyone does not want the same solution, they want the solution that suits their needs, and so we built a flexible range of services.

In 2004 we opened our Docklands data centre - London 2 - where we continue to host most key systems although now across 3 separate data centres. London 2 is a full Tier 4 facility with the best connectivity in London and the infrastructure to support our uptime commitments.

In 2005 we began delivering our first integrated services, offering WAN and hosted systems as a single suite of products and combining technologies to deliver a service that exactly met each clients needs.

In 2006 we upgraded our core network and brought the Routing, Switching, Firewalling and Load Balancing all together into the core network. This allowed us to remove over a hundred network devices from client networks and reduce our our power consumption in Networking by 45%. It also meant huge increases in the flexibility and capacity of key network services. This was the change that got us looking at the improvements we could make throughout the systems we host and led eventually to UCS.

In 2007 we started developing Linux based virtual systems, over a hundred thousand pounds was spent on that first stage of development and it led to our first flexible virtual platform going live for Ebay in September 2007.

In 2008 We have launched UCS, a fully fledged enterprise utility computing platform. It delivers huge power and cooling benefits and is as a result we think the definition of Green computing. Best of al it does this as a by product of the creation of a platform which is as flexible and as powerful as is currently possible.
